Most of the people when speaking about Taiwan describe it as « convenient ».
Indeed, it is. And Taiwan is not only convenient for its 7/11 open all night long. It also allows you to go to great cheap gyms without committing for one or two years.
Here is a list of great options you have if you want to exercise for cheap without having a membership in Taipei. Life is full of unpredictable things, so the more flexible you can be, the better it is. No excuse to not work out, right?
Quick tip: Most of those gyms require a towel to get in. Sometimes they don’t check, but you never know! They won’t lend you towels for free either so if you plan to shower, bring yours!

First fitness has now 2 locations. It is really cheap. Indeed, it is only 1 NTD per hour. The gym has cardio and weight machines. The cardio section is mostly bikes, a climbing ladder, and steps. The gym also offers a few classes. You have to sign up in advance. Some classes are free, some are not. For example, if you want to sign up for a Yoga class, you need to pay, but a high interval class is free.
Opening hours: 7:00 am – 1:30 am ( It used to be 24/7, but it is not anymore)
Address: No. 333, Section 3, Heping East Road, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110 (Linguang Station)
Price: 1$/minute (You need to buy the card the first time ($ 100))
Good to know: There is no treadmill.
Lockers: There are lockers, but you need to bring your own lock.
Located in Zhongshan just a couple of minutes away from the Apple store, this gym is massive! There are cardio and weight machines. There is also a swimming pool, a sauna, and a hammam.

Price: 100 nt for the whole day
Lockers: Bring your ID, bring your Towel.
Most of the universities have gyms. Here is the information for Taida gym. Mostly beneficial for student, this is still a great option because you can buy a day pass, monthly membership or a buy a membership for a couple of months.
Opening hours: 6:00 ~ 22:00 on weekdays
Address: No. 1, Section 4, Roosevelt Rd, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
Price: Check the website as it varies if you are a student or not

Each area has a lot of cheap sports centers where you can come without memberships, and you don’t need to buy a card. There are a lot in Taipei, so there is a high likelihood that you will find one anywhere you are.
Opening hours: It depends on the gym, but usually 6AM–10PM

Lockers: For the government gyms, we highly recommend bringing your own lock in case you are not sure whether they provide some. Most of the gyms are big and your valuables can get stolen. It is Taipei, so most of the people are incredibly nice and respectful, but you never know.
Now that you have several options depending on where you live, you know that you don’t have to stick to the same place to work out. Even if you have a membership with another gym, an extra 50 or 100 nt give you alternative options.
